I’ve Fallen Down The Rabbit Hole

English: A Fairy Tale by Dorothy M.WheelerOf NaNoWriMo, that is. I’m just under twenty thousand words and far behind, but I’m convinced that I can pull myself out of it. It’s been a pretty challenging draft so far. I got about six chapters in before I started getting stuck and now I’m just writing out the random scenes that are floating around in my head. I’m not sure what order they fall into, but I realized that some of them connect to others after reading through them. I’m certain the story will start coming together as long as I keep going.

I’ve also been working on the Project REUTSway challenges. The first story was a little rough and not so big with the details. I tend to write more dialogue than descriptions in my writing and I’m trying to keep that in mind as I work on my NaNo draft. I was not picked for the first challenge’s Top Looks, but there were some really fantastic excerpts posted. I wasn’t into the theme of the second challenge (The Ugly Dead), and didn’t write for it, but the Top Looks once again amazed me. Even if I don’t make it into the anthology I can already tell it’s going to great!

The theme for this challenge is Fairy Tales From Hell and I couldn’t be more excited. This week we’re given the chance to incorporate Demons, Fallen Angels, Succubae, etc. and as a bonus challenge: Gender swap the hero/heroine of your fairy tale, and/or add an LGBT element. I’ve been waiting for something like this to come up since these are elements that I play with already in a lot of my works in progress. Coming up with something new and giving it a fairy tale twist seems exciting!

If you’ve been thinking about joining the fun but are unsure, there’s still time. The deadline for this challenge has been extended to 11/22 at 9:00am EST. After that is fourth and final challenge, so get your short stories in while you can. I can honestly say that I’ve had fun writing for this completion and I’m pleased with what I’ve done so far, even if it isn’t as perfect as I’d like it to be. If you happen to be on Twitter you can see some of the participants favorite lines from their stories under the hashtag #AmREUTSing.

I know that I’ve slipped unforgivably on NaBloPoMo, but when you’re juggling as many plates as I am it’s inevitable that is one is going to break. Still, I hope that you’re still with me and can look past my sporadic posting. All I can promise you are interesting stories in return. For now, I’m off to have a cup of tea with the mad hatter and write a few thousand words.

What is something you fail to do daily? Which fairy tale is/was your favorite?
